it's the most wonderful time of the year
I adore this time of year. From the spicy smells of citrus, cinnamon, and trees, to the familiar music and old movies - I can't get enough. For those of you who knew my mom, you understand where I get this love. Every Thanksgiving night we would kick of the Holiday season by watching Miracle on 34th Street (the original black and white), and the next day we would head to Santa's Forest to pick out the perfect Christmas tree. This year, Dave and I continued that tradition. We put a fake tree in our Christmas Tree Window right after Thanksgiving, but we were a little late getting our real tree. I am happy to report that tonight, we visited Santa's Forest and picked out the perfect tree over a cup of hot cider with my grandpa and aunt & uncle.
While I am so excited to start decorating our tree, a part of me is so sad. I miss my mom. I miss my grandmas. This time of year is just not the same without them...maybe I'll wait to decorate the real tree until I'm in a more festive mood...

Your mom would be so happy that you're back in the house for this special time of year. Although she may be disappointed in your rather sparse decorating...I mean, there is still wall space showing. :)
no only would your mom love that you're in the house, but she would also love that you have not 1, but 2 trees!! i love it! we have 3 up at our house (well, one big one and 2 little ones) and i think more expansion is possible. if you haven't gotten into the spirit before next friday, i'm sure there are some ladies somewhere who would love to help decorate the tree :)
I miss your mom too. I always loved coming over during Christmas and watching old Holiday movies with you guys. She is LOVING that you are in her house and making it look festive.
I'll always remember your back covered patio filled to the brim with houses and festive holiday decor. your mom made the holiday so special... anyone who wasn't already in the Christmas spirit sure was once they walked through your front door.
we'll toast your mom next friday... what was her favorite holiday beverage?! We'll have to incorporate that into the party! :)
Your mom was a special lady and holidays are SO hard without your parents in the picture.
I miss my dad on holidays, especially Christmas. He made such a comical show of being Scrooge like but he loved the holidays and getting together with his family and friends.
Your mom wouldn't want you to remember her and her mad Christmas skills and be sad. You should remember them and let them bring joy into your heart and a warm smile to your lips.
I hope you got into the spirit and that even though as Jill put it, "There is wall space showing" find a way to incorperate some of your mom's mad decorating skills into your new/old home to keep her memories alive.
Have a wonderful new year!
